Role purpose:
As an Assistant Management Accountant (ASM) you are a key player in the team providing supporting information to the accounting teams to help understand and articulate Business unit Performance. We actively seek to encourage the ASM role to move into MA positions at the earliest opportunity focussing on the development of the employee. The ASM role can contribute towards revenue postings, customer rebate accruals, understanding business unit performance for the monthly P&L. Beyond month-end responsibilities, the ASM producing insightful analyses on supplier reporting, Balance sheet detail reconciling granular cost data, collaborating with cross-functional teams and addressing ad-hoc management accounting duties. The ASM’s are encouraged to participate in facilitating continuous improvement in financial processes.
Key responsibilities:
- Assisting the production of the monthly management accounts, including accruals and prepayments, focus on ensuring systemised account coding is correct
- Key point of contact for business operational teams, expectation that you will work with both accounting and operational teams to validate supporting schedules for the management accounts
- Attending and contributing to meetings for your area or expertise
- Working closely with other areas of the finance team to resolve issues and enhance process
- Supporting budgeting and forecasting for business units
- Ensuring compliance with company policies
- Ensuring controls are understood for processes in your area of responsibility
- Escalate complex queries as appropriate to ensure timely resolution. Develop a protocol for the escalation of issues beyond team resolution capabilities. Collaborate with relevant departments to address escalated concerns.
- Training and Development Develop the skills of the employee through one-to-one training sessions. Actively participate in a culture of continuous improvement by enhancing the team's ability to independently resolve queries. Involvement in training programs to address specific areas of focus for employee development
Skills and experience:
- Studying accountant / PQ or a someone with a keen eye for financials
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication, reporting and interpersonal skills, both in writing and orally to a diverse set of audiences, including senior management
- Strong reconciliation skills between data sets
- Flexible mindset and ability to adapt to changing requirements
- Keen to learn and progress
