Role: IBM Watson Orchestrate (AI Agents) Engineer

Location: England (SCC operate hybrid working, which comprises of a mix of office and home working)

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary Package: £45,000 - £55,000 plus large company benefits, a broad flexible benefits scheme, and 2 paid-for volunteering days a year

Hours: 9.00 am – 5.30 pm Monday – Friday

Role purpose:
Part of our exciting journey in establishing and expanding our AI practice, this role is instrumental in identifying potential clients, understanding their immediate and evolving needs, and crafting compelling AI solutions that align with our vision and capabilities. Collaborating closely with the sales, product, and technical teams, you will help demonstrate the value of our AI offerings and lay the groundwork for successful client engagements and long-term sustainable growth.
Specifically this role will design, develop, and deploy AI solutions using IBM's Watsonx Orchestrate Platform. This role encompasses various specializations, including AI engineering, backend development, and data lakehouse engineering. 
Key responsibilities:
  • AI Solution Development: Utilize the watsonx platform to co-create AI solutions with clients, focusing on technology patterns that enhance repeatability and client satisfaction. 
  • Client Engagement: Collaborate with technical leaders across SCC’s sales teams to drive experiential client engagements, often developing 4-to-6-week pilot projects.
  • Model Design and Deployment: Design, build, and deploy AI models using watsonx.ai, integrating these solutions with necessary back-end systems to develop comprehensive AI systems.  
  • Data Lakehouse Engineering: Assist in the design, implementation, operation, and optimization of data lakehouse architectures using IBM watsonx data.  
  • Needs Assessment: Conduct thorough discovery sessions with potential clients to grasp their unique challenges, business objectives, and AI-related requirements, with supporting business cases.
  • Solution Presentations: Effectively communicate the value proposition of our AI offerings, using compelling presentations and demonstrations tailored to each client's specific needs.
  • Proposal Development: Collaborate closely with sales and technical teams to craft well-defined AI solutions and proposals that align with client expectations and industry best practices, that are both sustainable and repeatable
  • Relationship Building: Establish strong relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders, building trust and positioning yourself as a reliable advisor on the watsonx platform
  • Market Intelligence: Stay updated on the latest developments in AI technology, competitor offerings, and industry trends to help refine our AI practice and evolution of appropriate strategies.
  • Sales Support: Offer technical expertise and insights during the pre-sales process, assisting the sales team in navigating and understanding client problems, queries and objections.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product development, marketing, and leadership teams to provide valuable feedback, drive product enhancements, positive outcomes and align AI offerings with overall company goals.
  • Sales Enablement: Develop pre-sales collateral and resources, including AI-related materials (specifically WatsonX), case studies, and documentation to empower the sales team and foster their success.

Skills and experience:
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, and familiarity with machine learning and AI technologies, focusing on foundational models.
  • Ability to deliver new features and improvements, participate in testing and documenting solutions, and work with tools like Git and CI/CD automation tools.  
  • Experience in software testing, particularly in testing web applications or AI-based systems, with proficiency in Python for test automation and scripting.  
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is typically required, with a master's degree preferred for certain positions.
  • Passion for artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, with a strong desire to shape the growth of our AI practice
  • Demonstrate an ability to learn quickly and stay informed about AI advancements and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven experience in sales, pre-sales, or customer-facing roles is preferred but not required.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a startup environment within a large business, with a hands-on, pro-active approach.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and a willingness to contribute to the broad-er team effort.
  • Willingness to explore new ideas and experiment with different approaches to achieve AI practice development goals.
  • Must be able to obtain the Government and/or Police Security levels required in order to meet the operational requirements of the role (no caveats) and as per the requirements stipulated in relevant customer contracts.
