Role purpose:
The Management Accountant plays a pivotal role in our financial team, focusing on the meticulous execution of month-end processes to ensure accurate and transparent financial reporting. This includes overseeing revenue postings, managing customer rebate accruals, and consolidating business unit performance for the monthly P&L. Beyond month-end responsibilities, the Management Accountant delves into post month-end activities, producing insightful analyses on supplier contract reporting and addressing ad-hoc management accounting duties. With a strategic emphasis on customer profitability, this role involves reconciling granular cost data, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to the enhancement of automated rules for revenue reporting. The Management Accountant serves as a key contributor to our financial integrity, providing essential insights for informed decision-making and facilitating continuous improvement in financial processes.
Key responsibilities:
- Reporting financial performance for the UK Business Units, including (but not limited to) production of the monthly management accounts, and ensuring timely review of the P&Ls with the business unit operational heads.
- Collating commentary and insight alongside the business partnering team supporting the trading performance and provide to the SMA following monthly review meetings with the operational leadership team
- Driving the budgeting process for relevant division, building the budget from key rolling forecast information provided by the Business Partnering team working together on cost drivers, explain, challenge and support key assumptions from stakeholders. Budgets need to be operationally owned but supported and presented by the accounting teams.
- Supporting profitability analysis.
- Responsibility for Balance Sheet reconciliation sign off for relevant business unit (s), ensuring support of the detailed make-up of the balance sheet positions highlighting risks and opportunities to the Senior Management accountant.
- Supporting with the Year End audit and be available to support the external audit team for relevant business area of responsibility.
- Supporting Corporate Governance and Financial Control, support the financial control manager in maintaining best practice documents of accounting processes and controls within SCC.
- Ensuring regular reporting cycle targets are adhered to.
- Where applicable, working with an assistant management accountant aligned to your business areas, responsible for smaller business units or subcomponents of the business units for which you are responsible. Responsibility for coaching, mentoring and shaping the development of this colleague.
- Supporting ad hoc financial analysis to aid decision making.
Skills and experience:
- Professional qualification in accounting (e.g., ACCA, CIMA).
- Proven experience in management accounting roles, demonstrating a strong financial background.
- Experience in month-end processes, ensuring accurate revenue posting and resolving exceptional items promptly.
- Ability to manage customer rebate accruals and consolidate performance across various business units.
- Strong analytical skills for post month-end duties, including supplier contract reporting and ad-hoc analysis.
- Proficiency in interpreting financial data to provide meaningful insights and forecasts.
- Experience in reconciling and analysing granular cost data for accurate customer profitability reporting.
- Familiarity with automated rules for revenue reporting, ensuring functionality and troubleshooting as needed.
- Proven ability to liaise effectively with cross-functional teams, specifically Service Delivery Managers and IT Projects stakeholders.
- Clear and concise communication skills, facilitating explanations for changes in customer profitability trends.
- Demonstratable adaptability to evolving processes and changing dynamics in revenue and cost structures
