Role purpose:
As a vital
member of our DBA Team the Junior Database
Administrator is responsible for supporting the day‑to‑day operation,
maintenance, and monitoring of the organisation’s database platforms. Working
closely with senior DBAs and wider Infrastructure teams, the role focuses on
ensuring database availability, performance, security, and reliability.
This position is ideal for an individual early in their DBA career
who is looking to build strong technical foundations in database
administration, gain exposure to enterprise environments, and develop towards a
full DBA role through structured learning and operational experience.
Collaborating
closely with cross-functional teams, you will troubleshoot and resolve
technical issues, implement upgrades, and stay abreast of industry trends to
recommend innovative solutions. Your expertise will contribute to enhancing the
Database enterprise.
Key responsibilities:
Operations
Metrics Development:
Develop and monitor daily
operations metrics to assess the performance, health, availability and
efficiency of the database infrastructure
Operations
Management:
Support and manage all corporate
database Infrastructure (MS SQL Server, Oracle) Incident Management, Changes,
Moves, Implementations and Infrastructure Applications. Conduct regular reviews
of DR & Backup Services and actively contribute to the remediation of
vulnerabilities identified in security assessments.
Vendor
Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with
vendors to address and resolve issues, ensuring timely escalation when
necessary
Project
Support:
Collaborate
with Design teams to support project implementations.
Contribute to reducing
central database IT infrastructure costs through cloud adoption.
Incident
Resolution:
Take ownership of resolving
incidents assigned by the service desk within defined Service Level Agreements
(SLAs).
Change
Management Delivery:
Manage the successful
delivery of changes to the production environment, ensuring minimal disruption
and adherence to established protocols
Estate
Monitoring and Investigation:
Monitor the database estate
for issues or anomalies, investigating and resolving them promptly.
Documentation
and Analysis:
Analyse and document the
current database estate, maintaining up-to-date documentation as the enterprise
evolves
Audit Compliance and Support:
Ensure full compliance with Group, Legal, and Regulatory requirements,
actively participating in internal and external audit cycles, and supporting
the remediation of audit actions. Additionally, drive identified risks to
closure, reporting progress against each risk in the messaging environment.
Skills and experience:
Database
Expertise:
Basic
understanding of relational databases, preferably Microsoft SQL Server.
Awareness of database
concepts such as backups, restores, indexing, and security. Experience working
in an IT support or infrastructure environment
Operational
Resilience:
Ability to work under
pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Demonstrated
experience handling multiple customers and projects simultaneously.
Stakeholder
Management:
Business experience
showcasing effective stakeholder management in the context of IT infrastructure
projects. Proven ability to communicate
complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and align IT
initiatives with overall business objectives.
Certifications
and ITIL Awareness:
Hold
appropriate certifications in core technology platforms, specifically MS SQL
Server.
Security
clearance or able to obtain one
Experience or awareness of
ITIL processes.
Educational
Qualifications:
Educated
to degree level, ideally in an IT or Business subject matter.
Strong academic foundation
complemented by practical experience in IT infrastructure roles.

and Self-Motivated:
